Busy week: Painting went really well, and I’m actually fairly excited to get the bathroom done as well. Hoping to get some sanding and priming done hopefully this week, and then maybe painting next! Woot! The closet systems are a bit different than either Betsy or I had really expected, but they are nice and we’re already starting to move stuff into them and out of wherever we’ve been stashing them up until now.

Ah, the fabulous smell of primer! Er, well, actually it’s basically the smell of ammonia filling the house, but at least we’ve got the priming on the closets done! Then painting tonight, and they install the organizer system on Wednesday. Finally!

Also, if the yeast test doesn’t come out right? I’m very seriously considering going straight to kegging to get around the whole problem.

Quick Update: Haven’t done a damn thing since that last batch failed so badly. I’ve got some time off coming up though, so I’m going to look into doing a yeast test to figure out if there is a yeast out there that will work. So far my plan is to try between 4-6 different yeasts in 2 bottles each with just water and sugar. I should get a good idea of what the individual flavors and carbonation levels are like from that.

So I think that I have found what I would like to replace my Handspring Visor Platinum with: The Garmin iQue 3600. It’s about the same size and weight as my existing Visor, has a much better screen, still uses grafitti unlike a lot of the other new Palm OS devices, has a built in GPS, and has an SD expansion slot. The only problem is that in order to adequately use the GPS, you really have to have a fairly large SD memory card to hold the geographical data, but since I also want Bluetooh in my next handheld I wouldn’t be able to use both the really nice integrated GPS functions at the same time!

Odd experience: A distant relative from Germany (I’m not precisely sure how we’re related, but the last name is the same) randomly contacted me over ICQ. Not a bad conversation so far.

Speaking of too many hobbies, I’ve actually done some work with one of them that you can even see! Last night I finished the first version of a simple web app for us here at the Cavort household to be able to post images to the web really easily. It doesn’t do much, but it works, and that’s really the important part. You should be able to see it at http://www.

On Saturday, I had the wonderful opportunity to help and observe a friend put a couple of batches of soda down. He’s been home brewing beer for quite awhile now and I, correctly, thought that by actually watching him do a batch I could pick up plenty of tips and techniques about brewing. It was quite a good time, and he even sent me home with half of the batches (8 bottles, 4 of each type) to observe, test, and enjoy.

This morning I realized, again, that I have too many hobbies. I really wonder if I sometimes really get paralyzed by the number of things that I could be doing. Work is easier, there is a defined goal that I need to work for generally so it’s easy to just keep plugging away until it gets done. There will always be other goals to work toward at work. At home how many solid goals do I really have that I work toward?
