Itty Bitty Rants

Infrequent posts about stuff.

  • Attempted Zoom

So this week I hope to be going to the Metrodome for rollerblading. I took my first few glides this last summer with some help from a friend. Unfortunately I was stupid and had not bought pads so my first spill on my third time out put my right wrist into a brace for a month or so and I haven’t been back on them since, but I’m really looking forward to it.

  • Mezzo Mix

A friend recently brought back a bottle of Mezzo Mix from a recent trip to Germany for me, for which I am very grateful. If you like Coke, and you like orange flavors, you’ll really like Mezzo Mix since it really is just Coke with 1.5% orange juice from concentrate. Tasty!

  • Time to boycott Sony?

ArsTechnica is reporting that Sony’s latest DRM system on audio CD’s involves installing a rootkit on your system. This is just rampant stupidity.

  • Yahoo Music Price Increase?

Paul Thurrott blogged about a news article that Yahoo is increasing the price of their Music services. I found it really interesting because that was the first I’ve heard of it and I’m a subscriber! I’m looking into it, and I’ll probably post more info as I find it.

  • Sorting It All Out : When is a backslash not a backslash?

Just read a really cool article about why a backslash isn’t a backslash in Korean and Japanese versions of Windows.

  • Content for iPod Video: What a rip off!

So we now have a choice: buy a complete season of Lost on high-quality DVD for $38.99 from Amazon, or buy little tiny version from Apple that will play on your shiny new iPod Video for $34.99. I’m probably going to buy an episode, just to see how it does look, but it’s formatted to look nice on a 2.5inch screen. What is the likelihood it will be watchable on a computer monitor!

  • Selling the house

I decided very late last week that I am just too lazy to be a landlord, and so I am going to sell my duplex in South Minneapolis in the next 6 months. Hopefully somewhat sooner than later but we’ll see what happens. I have to finish a couple of projects before I can put it on the market, and I want to see what market conditions are like as well.

  • New cars…

I went out and drove cars last night. I hadn’t done this before now for exactly the reasons I’m feeling right now: Want. There is always a bug in the back of my head to have something new and shiny, but that can often be alleviated somewhat by not playing around with what ever it is. It was fun. I drove a 2005 Scion xA, a 2006 Honda Civic EX, and a 2005/6 VW Golf GLS and had a pretty good time with all of them.
