Finding things in odd places…
I read a fair number of different blogs and news sources and recently added a whole slew of feeds when I recently bought an XBox 360. This morning, I read on one of those news feeds news about the company I work for: DK is the New Home for BradyGames. Unfortunately I’ve never seen software up in the employee “bookstore”.

Timing is everything…
I was at Valleyfair yesterday but left not too long before a bit of excitement. Am I the only one that thinks the safety report is a bit lurid and overblown? 1 error in 10 years of operation sounds reasonable. Also, I did get to ride on the new ride called “Xtreme Swing”. I do have to say that the moments at apogee on that contraption are: almost heart stopping. :-)

Smoky City
Smoky City, originally uploaded by nstohlma. I actually remembered to get some pictures while I was visiting Chicago last weekend and this one in particular turned out a lot better than I had hoped. It was a generally cloudy day and we got lucky enough that the clouds had risen enough that the view from the Hancock Tower observation deck was actually pretty decent. The “smoke” in the foreground of this picture is actually water vapor from an unpictured building’s rooftop HVAC system.

Go for launch?
Well, it appears that NASA has enough confidence in their most recent shuttle launch prediction to start selling tickets for this one. I had thought earlier this year about trying to get to this launch when it was going to be in early May, but now I have other plans for the first of July. Maybe the next launch.

And just when I had settled in…
My office has been in the middle of a bit of an extended shuffle since the beginning of the year. Some people were going to be moving, then they were not going to be moving, then moving to another building, then my group was going to move in July, then in June, then the following week, then 3 weeks later. That last one was finally correct and we’ve been up on the 5th floor for about 2 and a half weeks.

Well that was quick…
I’ve already found a use for Google Notebook at work. I’ve spent most of the day researching an issue we have with our embedded Flash 7 Player installation failing on a client’s machine. It turns out it’s because the Flash 8 Player installation is a bunch of crap and can cause all sorts of interesting issues.

Lack of Urge-ency?
Ed Bott doesn’t like some of the clauses of the EULA in the new Windows Media Player and Urge services. Not that I can blame him with a couple of those. “our generous Advertisers” indeed.

Google Notebook
Google introduced a new service today, called Notebook, that was announced last week amid a few other items. I haven’t played with it much yet, but it seems at least interesting.

Change happens.
Posted to L-Space: For the past 6+ years I have spent time, effort, electricity, and bandwidth on what has been overall one of the most fun little projects I’ve ever had. A little BBS with a stable user base, interesting content, and lots of friends. It has not been without some occasional trouble, whether social or technological, but on balance it has been well worth the effort. Over the past 10 months I’ve been doing some extensive analysis of the message traffic on the board.
