Itty Bitty Rants

Infrequent posts about stuff.

  • Lavender Love

[BevNet has a fairly positive review](http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/drysoda/) up of a new line of sodas with some fairly interesting flavors: Rhubarb, Lavender, Lemongrass, and Kumquat. The brand is called [DRY Soda](http://www.drysoda.com/), and I only wish I could get some locally. With a mixed-case price starting at $25, plus shipping, I think I'm going to have to wait a bit before I get to try it. I've actually been thinking that the people behind Snow would do a fabulous job with lavendar flavored soda.

  • So close I could smell it…

I've been playing Cribbage at lunch with a coworker and today, after we have been trading skunks the last couple of days, I had a near-miss at getting double-skunked. Thank goodness I managed those last six points.

  • Extra credit

The Veronica Mars season two episode "One Angry Veronica" has a credit for a "Ned Flanders Type". I hope nobody has ever said pop culture isn't self-referential.

  • Is it Mr?

[Listening to: Magoo by Drums and Tuba from the album Mostly Ape] I don't think I've posted recently about how much I like the band [Drums and Tuba](http://www.drumsandtuba.com/). I'm reminded of it since the track [Magoo](http://www.disclogic.com/cart.jsp?itemId=29689&sessionID=C4F5FF406AF93E0C184189395D80B9EA) from the album [Mostly Ape](http://cdbaby.com/cd/drumsandtuba3) came up in my usual shuffle mode listening. Finding myself typing in time to the music while writing some code is kind of an odd experience. It is exactly the sort of song that grabs hold of your lizard brain and begins to reprogram you to move and breathe in it's own time until the first horn solo comes through and sets you free to figure out what the hell is going on before the capturing riffs come back just like a fairytale piper to lead you back out of your own head.

  • I don’t usually do this sort of thing…

From [Thinking Too Much](http://resolute.livejournal.com/94936.html) and [Angry Starfish](http://xatharine.livejournal.com/364995.html) From [Singularity Sky](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0441010725/ref=ase_charlieswebsi-20/104-5554065-7598302?s=books&v=glance&n=283155&tagActionCode=charlieswebsi-20) by [Charles Stross](http://www.antipope.org/charlie/): <em>I am the Eschaton. I am not your god.<br />I am descended from you, and I exist in your future.<br />Thou shalt not violate causality within my historic light cone. Or else.</em> The book immediately under that one (Not from a closet :-P )&nbsp;is [A Peace To End All Peace](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0805068848/104-5554065-7598302?v=glance&n=283155) by [David Fromkin](http://www.bu.edu/ir/faculty/fromkin.html): By the end of the war, the export trade was down to a quarter and the import trade down to a tenth of what they had been.

  • Live Arcade Board Games!

[Just saw](http://www.xblarcade.com/node/179) that Microsoft has announced that several great board games will be showing up on Xbox Live Arcade someday: [Carcassone](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcassonne_%28board_game%29), Alhambra, and [Settlers of Catan](http://www.mayfairgames.com/shop/product/0480-0499/pages/0483.htm)! I imagine the Catan game will just be a port of the excellent PC version, or at least I hope it will be that that good.

  • Because they can: Part II

Google has decided to do [a party at Worldcon too](http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/08/worldcon-beckons.html).

  • I always thought "Heavy Duty" was a euphemism

It seems our new SAN devices are too heavy for the current tiles in the data center.&nbsp; Today the environment will be unavailable to move the devices and replace the tiles with heavy duty tiles.&nbsp; The environment will be available tomorrow morning. I thought it was funny. Or maybe it's the allergies and decongestant doing the thinking at this point.
