Itty Bitty Rants

Infrequent posts about stuff.

  • Feed fixed, I hope

It looks like the new “Bluehost FastCGI Acceleration” was causing problems with the site feeds. It should be fixed now.

  • Last Train Home

I think I spent about 10 hours listening to live music yesterday. It might have been 11, but it’s hard to remember precisely at this point. There is one particular good, and one particular not-so-good observation I have from yesterday however. Good: SPF30 sunscreen, applied early enough, does actually keep me from roasting my skin and repeating last year’s idiocy of getting a burn on my knees bad enough to make walking painful.

  • Swing the night away

This weekend is the final half of the Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival, which has quite a few local and national jazz acts performing on mostly free stages in and around Peavey Plaza in downtown Minneapolis. I have been to at least some portion of each of the last four festivals and have been looking forward to this year’s event. I was a little disappointed to note that the festival is a fair bit smaller than it has been in the past, with only a single free stage on Friday night in Peavey Plaza, and two free stages Saturday and Sunday.

  • WTF: “Nation’s Nightmare”?

I’m not going to link directly to it, but if you go to the WCCO website you should be able to pretty easily find quite possibly the most stupid headline I have ever seen in my life: “Paris Release From Jail and A Nation’s Nightmare Over”. Uh, “Nation’s Nightmare”? Seriously? They aren’t kidding? Good thing their journalistic priorities are straight.

  • Beware: Adobe Reader 8.1 installation

FYI - If you install Adobe Reader 8.1 from the Adobe website, it will automagically install “Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition” without prompting to accept. If I wanted the software, I would have asked to download and install it. Assholes like this give people like me a bad name.

  • Bad test!

While I’m certain it is just coincidence, running the monthly severe weather alert siren about an hour after a squall with pea sized hail just about made me jump out of my skin.

  • Scissors Suck! Rocks Rule!

Some people have too much time on their hands. Maybe I should start a competitive coin flipping league. A cursory Google search doesn’t appear to show any.

  • Unwired city soon

According to this document I should be able to use the city of Minneapolis’ new wifi network by the end of the summer. It will be very interesting to see how it competes with my current DSL connection from Qwest.

  • Not kidding

Words I never would have thought being strung together, much less to describe an actual physical product: 1in3Trinity is the first & only Christian Faith Based Energy Drink.

  • Very good soda day

Yesterday was a very good soda day. Jennifer arrived for our usual date night with my birthday present a few days early: A mixed case of The Sopranos soda. (Do follow that link and make sure to watch the commercial, it’s fairly funny. The timing is a bit off but it works.) I’m drinking my first bottle of the Limoncello right now, and it’s pretty good if a touch more sweet than I necessarily like.
