Programmatically reprehensible

I have seen some pretty scary requirements for installation software before, but changing the regional time format? That is just so far beyond stupid.

    Lordy. I’ve seen something similar when the requirement was there so that a text file produced during the install could be parsed correctly by another part of the install. IIRC, this involved database update scripts. My office-mate was livid when he figured out why the process was crashing.

    There was also a recent thread on the net where someone asked for information about how to use Windows Installer’s upgrade facilities so they could automatically uninstall competing programs. It’s not the first time I’ve heard that one come up either.

    Most of the time it’s kind of funny what stakeholders will ask for from installations, but it’s things like this that are actually kind of scary.
