A little more spare

Normally I have 4 tabs open in Firefox all day long. One for Gmail, one for Google Reader, and then two for L-Space with one for System Status to keep me logged in and another for actually reading the message base. Today I have only have two open since I shut down L-Space last night, and it’s odd how small the tab strip looks and how I keep on wanting to click through more tabs than I can. It’s almost muscle memory of how to change through the tabs at this point.

Okay, maybe I’m not making any sense. Simple version: It’s odd not being logged into L-Space today. More odd than I expected.

I attended part of the public grand opening of the new Minneapolis Central Public Library on Saturday May 20, 2006. The new building is gorgeous, and my photos just don’t do it justice.

If only?

A friend sent along a link to an LJ post where someone did what they thought covers of three prominent DC comics would look like if the male characters where treated the same visually as the female characters usually are. I think it illustrates the point nicely. Quite possibly not work safe.

And so it ends…

I posted last week that I was shutting down L-Space, and tonight was that night. It had a good long run, and I’m proud of the legacy. Good luck to all my old users where ever they end up.

Finding things in odd places…

I read a fair number of different blogs and news sources and recently added a whole slew of feeds when I recently bought an XBox 360. This morning, I read on one of those news feeds news about the company I work for: DK is the New Home for BradyGames.

Unfortunately I’ve never seen software up in the employee “bookstore”.

Timing is everything…

I was at Valleyfair yesterday but left not too long before a bit of excitement. Am I the only one that thinks the safety report is a bit lurid and overblown? 1 error in 10 years of operation sounds reasonable.

Also, I did get to ride on the new ride called “Xtreme Swing”. I do have to say that the moments at apogee on that contraption are… almost heart stopping. :-)

Smoky City

Smoky City

Smoky City,
originally uploaded by nstohlma.

I actually remembered to get some pictures while I was visiting Chicago last weekend and this one in particular turned out a lot better than I had hoped.

It was a generally cloudy day and we got lucky enough that the clouds had risen enough that the view from the Hancock Tower observation deck was actually pretty decent. The “smoke” in the foreground of this picture is actually water vapor from an unpictured building’s rooftop HVAC system. :-)

You can see the rest of the set here.

Go for launch?

Well, it appears that NASA has enough confidence in their most recent shuttle launch prediction to start selling tickets for this one. I had thought earlier this year about trying to get to this launch when it was going to be in early May, but now I have other plans for the first of July. Maybe the next launch.

WoW.com -> Info -> Under Development

OMG – The best development change that I’ve heard of yet for WoW: Keyrings!

And just when I had settled in…

My office has been in the middle of a bit of an extended shuffle since the beginning of the year. Some people were going to be moving, then they were going to be moving, then moving to another building, then my group was going to move in July, then in June, then the following week, then 3 weeks later. That last one was finally correct and we’ve been up on the 5th floor for about 2 and a half weeks. While I didn’t get a window cube, I do get quite a view out through a couple of other people’s cubes which really is almost as good.

A few minutes ago my manager dropped by, we’re moving again. Down to the 3rd floor, which doesn’t feel quite as glamorous for some reason, but we’re getting window cubes. ETA, first week of June. I suppose we’ll just have to see what happens.
